Budget accommodation in Puerto Morelos?Hi All. Based on the replies to my earlier question, and after doing more research, we've decided that we would really like to include Puerto Morelos in our itinerary. We found accommodation that sounded perfect - Uncle Hugo's Reef Inn - but unfortunately it was fully booked on our dates. Would anyone know of a budget accommodation - a small locally run B&B or similar - somewhere near the beach for around $50 or less or are we dreaming of the impossible? Time is second half of February. Thanks in advance.

3Thanks both. I found a place that sounded very good (Buenos Dias), although it is on the other side of the highway. Would anyone happen to know where the bus stop is on the highway (coming from the airport) and whether it'd be ok to walk to the accommodation (just a few blocks from the stop) in the evening? What bus do we need to take from the airport, and do they automatically stop at Puerto Morelos turnoff?

4Its probably safe enough but from your original post, i understood you only wanted to be near the beach. This is a long hike or a taxi ride from the beach.
Where the bus stops on the highway looks to be about a 5 or 6 block walk to this place. All the ADO buses from the airport going to Playa del Carmen will make the stop , if they have passengers aboard with PM tickets.

"Yes we would have preferred to stay near the beach but couldn't find anything suitable budget wise."
If you look at Playa del Carmen, rather than Puerto Morelos, you'll probably find some lodging options there costing $50 or less, conveniently located within a safe, easy, five minute or less walk from the beach.

8But then you would have to be in Playa del Carmen. Maybe the OP prefers to be in a relatively unspoiled place such as PM, rather than the wall to wall tourists and pushy vendors in Playa.

9Last Feb. we stayed at hotel Mexico Plus. A couple of doors down from John Grays Kitchen. It was 600 per night. We never booked ahead(never do ). Just took a taxi from the bus stop to the central square and looked around from there . Took a look at some places and chose Mexico Plus. You would certainly not want to stay on the other side of the highway. Lots of places do not have websites. Liked Morelos . Nice beach and always some good entertainment in one of the restaurants at night. Liked it much more than the over run with tourists PDC.

10That's exactly why we want to stay in PM - prefer smaller quieter places. What we intend to do now is check in the place we booked for a couple of nights and have a good look around PM, hopefully we'll find something suitable once there. We would have done that in the first place (we generally don't book ahead), but we're flying from Europe and arriving fairly late - not a time to start wandering around. Will make a note of Mexico Plus, thanks.
