Destinations to visit in NZ

My partner an I are going to NZ late march 2013 for 2 weeks, we will be traverlling via campervan - flying into Auckland and flying out of Christchurch. Can you please suggest places we MUST visit and any information that will be helpfull??? If you can advise of a website where we could put in our desired destinations and it will plan a route for us that appreciated.

The best suggestion is to buy a guidebook and read it. (Lonely Planet do make one...) That will give you an idea of what places you might like to visit - we don't know whether you like scenery, museums, hiking, whether you are interested in the ocean or the mountains or the cities. That is why people write guidebooks, which include lots of helpful information, just for people like you.

Once you've read the book and figured out some places you might like to go and what you might like to do, come back with some more specific questions and we will be happy to help.

And if you dont want to buy a guide book, do some research here using the search box at the top of the page. You'll be surprised how many others have done what you want to do. Even old posts arent going to be out of date with places to see.

You are going to be rushed to do parts of both islands in only 2 weeks.

You don't need to visit both islands in 2 weeks I think because it will be such a rush and no one likes rushed vacations! What i'll suggest you to so is see which island you'd like to visit more, for example in the north island you'll be seeing places like Rotorua, Lake Taupo, Tongariro Crossings, Waitomo Caves, etc and in the south islands you'll be seeing Franz Josef, Milford Sound, Queenstown.

Or another thing of what you can do is just to drive slowly down to Christchurch from Auckland until your flight back. That will be the best thing to do then, you can go to Auckland down to Hobbiton, Rotorua, Waitomo (or Waitomo then Rotorua), Taupo, Tongariro Crossings, Wellington, Abel Tasman, maybe Kaikoura?

Asking what you consider a fair pay per year isnt a trick question, fairly standard in a lot of occupations.

The lists the best attractions in New Zealand, and they are updated and voted for yearly as far as i know.

Oh, and careful if you plan you route with google maps, the trip usually takes more time than what google maps quotes. Most roads in NZ not going straight, but have lot's of corners and hills so there is a lot of breaking and quite often you won't go faster than 40, unless you are in flat land.

Two weeks is a short time, then again NZ isn't that big. I'd suggest the Bay of Islands for a few days, Rotorua definitely, Lake Taupo, Wellington, Able Tasman, Kaikoura (whale watching) then you can amble down to Christchurch for a few days.

Heading to Bay of Islands for a few days then heading down south is going to eat into their limited time far too much. Much better to point the car south and keep going.
I lived up the far North so I know the driving involved.

Drive straight down the N. Island in three days, ferry across, then have about 10 days to do a very quick and simple circuit of some of the S . Island...

I'm with #12. Don't miss the West coast and Haast pass in the South Island.

If you can advise of a website where we could put in our desired destinations and it will plan a route for us that appreciated.

Pick up some tourist brochures from travel agents. Look through them, see where most tours and tour groups go. Work out if these places interest you. Then follow suit. Really though, you don't need a website to plan a route for you. The fun is working one out for yourself. With two weeks, you might be hard pushed to "do" both islands.

Quickest route from Auckland is Auckland to Rotorua, stopping at Waitomo Caves on the way. From Rotorua go to Taupo. Then down the highway to Wellington. (Personally Taupo to Welly is "the" most boring drive in NZ)

Look at Magic , check out their routes for North and South, that will give you an idea then plan your itinerary accordingly.
This is my NZ blog - you may find some helpful info there. I've been very lax, for I did that trip in 2007 and still haven't finished it.
