Northern Italy weather
Anyone planning a trip in the next few days...Venice is mostly underwater.
Lots of Tuscany too..esp.the coast (Massa,Carrara etc.).... and the Pisa area has been suffering very heavy rain.Don't know about CT but i guess its raining there as well.
Its even raining torrentially in Rome..
Bring your raincoat and wellies ;-)

Just saw the Daily Mail article on Venice's floods- kudos to those locals who seem to be trying to get get bogged down by this...3
We've had 180 mm of rain in 36 hours in western Umbria. Down the hill flooded and some people rescued by helicopter, access to the motorway closed due to flood water, schools closed Monday and Tuesday and we've had water in our (2nd floor) flat as the rain just too heavy for the drains to cope. After the coldest February for 40 years (we had -11C) now the wettest autumn for I don't know how long. Particularly bad too around Grossetto and Massa Carrara (SW and NW Tuscany)4
Here in Palermo it has been mostly sunny..24°C today ;-)6
I also wonder - and asked there - how is Croatia because there were reports about floods in Split, Rijeka etc.And snow in a.o. Austria end of October.
The EU just decided to pay the promised money for the former floods in Cinque Terre... How long will affected people have to wait for some help this time?

Italy:weather gets better, but in the Rome area, the Tevere will reach it's maximum level tomorrow only.
Venice is still flooded.

Alps:
It snowed down up to 500 metres on October 26th. Then the snow smelted again, in the Swiss canton of Valais up to about 2000 metres. Actually, there is no snow at places like Anzere, Crans-Montana, Albinen, etc. At Zermatt (1600m), the snow limit lies a few metres above the village.
There is more snow in Savoie, Bernese Oberland, Central/Northeastern Switzerland and Austria.
St. Moritz (1800m) is in the snow. All the alpine pass roads which are usually closed during the winter season are actually closed.
Italian bureaucratie: at Aquila, they are now waiting for more than 3 years. In Irpinia (Province of Avellino), the reconstruction of the houses destroyed by the earthquake of 1980 seems to be in it's very last stage.

It was mentioned on Euronews this evening, that Rome should escape the worst of the rain.12
It was hammering down in Rome at the weekend (i watched the highlights of the Roma-Lazio match on tv) but I think its a lot better there now3 people are dead in Grosseto...crushed by a bridge collapsing on to their car.And loads of houses have been flooded..thousands of people evacuated..

The A1 autostrada (Rome - Florence section) is still closed tonight northbound from Orte to Chiusi and southbound from Valdichiano to Fabro. All this traffic seems to be trying to use local roads - reports say the route via the E45 to Perugia and then via Terni to Orte is extremely busy. At least the sun shone here today but the damage in low lying areas looks awful.
