Travelling in Japan Itinerary Nov-DecHello,
I would appreciate tips regarding my itinerary. I am holding 14-days JR-Pass. On my travel I will also meeting some of my friends. I will give more detailed explanation below. I also listed some of the activities that I am planning to do.
Friday 16.11.- 22-11.2012 Nagoya. I have friends here I will be seeing and going with them. Some local attractions interested: Castle, Asahi, Toyota etc. If anything to add on this I am happy to hear.
Thursday 22.11.2012 Nagoya - Takayama (Shirakawago maybe). Morning markets etc. Taking Train to Tokyo in the evening.
Friday 23.11.2012 Takayama - Nagoya - Tokyo (evening) (catching up with a friend in Tokyo). We plan to do these activities around Tokyo together.
Saturday 24.11.2012 Tokyo - Hakone. We have car so will drive to Hakone and stay there overnight.
Sunday 25.11.2012 Hakone - Tokyo, (Yoyyogi Park, sights)
Monday 26.11.2012 Tokyo (Tsukiji Fishmarket,sights)
Tuesday 27.11.2012 Tokyo (Kamakura, Yokohama)
Wednes 28.11.2012 Tokyo - Nikko. Temples and sights. By myself.
Thursday 29.11.2012 Nikko - (Matsumoto). Seeing the castle in Matsumoto. I am not quite sure should I stay one day longer in Tokyo and skip either of these? Or spend two days in Nikko, or just a day in Matsumoto. Ideas? On travel I don't want to rush either or have that feeling, but currently i think this is doable.
Friday 30.11.2012 (Nikko / Matsumoto) - Togari Nozawaonsen - Nozawa Onsen
Saturday 1.12.2012 Nozawa Onsen (skiing)
Sunday 2.12.2012 Nozawa Onsen (skiing)
Monday 3.12.2012 Togari Nozawaonsen - Kanazawa (morning). Samurai district, Kanazawa castle, Kenroku-en, .
Tuesday 4.12.2012 Kanazawa - Kyoto (morning)
Wednes 5.12.2012 Kyoto - Nara - Kyoto (Last day of JR-Pass)
Thursday 6.12.2012 Kyoto (-Nagoya, evening) or
Friday 7.12.2012 (Kyoto) - Nagoya --> Flight to home at noon 11:55am. Not sure yet should I go to Nagoya on Friday to allow one more full day in Kyoto. This will cost me more but maybe its worth it (bus vs. bullet train)
Any ideas on this? Thanks!

2Not sure you'd get value out of the 2 week pass.
Never drove to Hakone, IMO public transport is pretty much excellent in the area and a car could be more of a hassle if you want to take ropeways or boats.
Perhaps rearranging your itinerary to travel: Nagoya-Tokyo/Hakone/Nikko-Nozawa-Matsumoto-Takayama-Kanazawa or Nagoya-Takayama-Matsumoto-Tokyo/Hakone/Nikko-Nozawa-Kanazawa could make sense. First option would allow you to see Shirakawago along the way instead of doing a detour.
I'd certainly spend more time in Kyoto. I'd sacrifice Nikko or Kamakura/Yokohama for an additional day in Tokyo (i.e. three days in Tokyo in total).

4Banse: That does make sense, thanks! However, there are couple issues on both of those itineraries. 1st option: Nozawa will open the slopes on 1.12.2012. So if I skip both Takayama&Matsumoto before Nozawa, I have "too much" time for Tokyo&Nikko axle. My flight back home is on 7.12.2012 and still quite a few places to go after Nozawa. I also feel that would be great to finish my Japanese experience in Kyoto. Therefore it is the last spot.
The second option seems to good to me. Are you sure the way will be open from Takayma-Matsumoto (Bus)? I happened to read from somewhere that in wintertime the route might be closed because of snow etc. I would not either like to spend the time going back to Nagoya for Matsumoto (train). This option might doable, we had some plans to go Hakone on saturday, I might need discuss with my friend about the itinerary.
Ken: Cool! I'll let you know when I know :)
