Itinerary Leh in February - lots of questions
Hi everyone,We are going to be in Leh, Ladakh for 10 days the beginning of February. I am having a hard time figuring out which places are accessible in winter time and am looking for some expert advice.
Ideally I like a guesthouse that is warm. I can take a cold day outside (and I live in Canada) but need a warm bed at the end of the day. I dont mind basic at all, just somewhat heated :) We are aware that the first 2 days are resting days.
Ideally I would like to stay overnight at Pangong Tso and stay 1 or 2 nights in Nubra Valley, but is this even possible? Or should we make Pangong a day trip?
If possible overnight, which guesthouses/villages do you recommend? What villages should we visit?
Any tour operators that are open winter and you would recommend?
What daytrips are best even in wintertime?
I read that it is advisable to stay overnight at Lamayura or Alchi ...or is a daytrip better in winter?
Will there still be a possibility of ice hockey on the lakes near Leh? Where do we go for this?
Any cultural activities that are not to miss?
Thanks!

Hi,You can check out the status of highways in the link http://leh.nic.in/ at any point of time in the year.
Also list of approved hotels can be found at http://leh.nic.in/pages/tourism.html.
Staying at Pangong Tso might be difficult since the accommodation can be basic in nature and you might not find a warm and cozy bead at the end of the day, so would recommend a day trip if at all possible.
At Nubra you will find lots of Tent accomodations.
Many of the festivals of the monasteries take place in winter. Losar the Ladakhi New year falls about the time of the winter solstice any time between 8th and 30th December.
You will find the festival dates in the link http://www.reachladakh.com/festival_dates.htm.
Thanks,
Avik
