10 day Colombian itinerary
Hi all,Going to Colombia Dec 21 (arrival late night) - Jan 1 (departure late night) (roundtrip to-from Bogota)
my main focus is on rural-countryside/local culture/food & coffee. not very interested in museums etc... would like to spend at 1-2 days in Cali for Feria Del Cali, specifically for bullfighting or horse riding parade, and of course a bit of salsa. I'd also like to spend 1 day in cocora valley and 1 day visiting Guatapé and El Penon. the rest is pretty much open.
my plan is as follows
Arrival Dec. 21 - Bogota
Dec 22-dec 23 - Bogota (is there much to do here? should I really stay longer?)
Dec 24 bus to Cali (not sure if buses run on this day, but i'm assuming i can take a collectivo?)
Dec 25-Dec 26 - Cali
Dec 27 bus to Salento
Dec 28 - day trip cocora valley
Dec 29- bus to Medellin
Dec 30 - day trip Guatapé and El Penon (can I do Medellin, Guatape, and walk up El Penon all in 1 day?)
Dec 31 - bus to Bogota
Jan 1 - Bogota, and fly back to US.
yes, I realize i'll be spending a lot of time on buses, but I enjoy bus travel and think of it as part of the experience. I also pack a full day in when I travel, so i'm usually out and about from morning to evening and see more than the average person in 1 day's time.
if you were to take a plane between any of these destinations, which would it be? is there anything you would drop from the itinerary? anything you would add?
Thanks!

Colombianteacher36 is right... Colombians appreciate that you write and pronounce words like Colombia and El Peñol and Parque Lleras correctly... It is a Colombian thing.Your Itinerary is rushed. You will be exhausted and spend your time on buses. Bus travel is not without its risk and annoyances.
Just focus on Medellín this trip. Ten days are not even enough to enjoy Medellín and its awesome surrounding areas and Guatapé and El Peñol.... and a quick flight (yes flight) to another city like Cali or Bogotá.
Whatever you do, you will have a good time as long as nothing bad happes to you... or you do something bad.

Depending on what time your return flight departs, why not look at flying from MED - BOG on 1 January. VivaColombia is the low fare carrier.Bogotá will be lit up with "alumbrados navideños" (Christmas lights) as well as Medellín, so make sure to venture out at night to have a peek. Great time of year to be in Colombia, I'l be roaming around a few of your destinations too.
