Miami to Trinidad and Tobago by boat...

Hi there, I am looking into options getting from Miami to Trinidad and Tobago. Is it possible to make my way down by boat trips so that i can stop into a bunch of different islands on the way?
Cheers

AFAIK, no unless you find some sort of cruise that fits your desires. You would need to fly some legs.

OK, you didn't specify a date, so the closest option is for Dec 2012 - there's a ship fitting your itinerary (at least the Tobago section, call port Scarborough), departing from Ft Lauderdale (Florida) on Caribbean Princess - it's an one-way to the Brasil Amazon (disembarking in Manaus, Brazil (exotic, huh!) - 28day, from around $4000, and the flight ticket back is an extra. What's so special about Tobago, anyway?

Thanks for your responses! Thought i would leave a bit more detail....

My partner and I are planning a year+ trip into South, Central and for a brief stint North America.... Originally i was thinking we would go round South America first (starting in Chile), however lately i have been looking into the following route:

Overland from Chile up to Colombia -
Boating to Panama -
Overland up to South of Mexico
Flying up to Los Angeles (to visit my family there) -
Flying across to New Orleans -
Overland across to Miami
Boating back to Venezuela via the Caribbean Islands to continue to South American leg down the other coast.

We are hoping to survive on about $50USD each/day (we have been saving for years for this since leaving University) and are giving ourselves over a year t do the trip....and we are comfortable staying in low cost backpackers and guest houses. A cruise option sounds great starting in Miami and then ending in say Trinidad and Tobago and we might seriously consider this (even though it may blow out the budget a fair bit)...but i was hoping to find cheaper options through ferries etc.

I see this isnt much of an option in the carribean though now that i have done a bit of reading up! Anyway, keep all critiques/comments coming - really appreciate them!

....sorry, Tobago seems perfect for heading back into Venezuela. We would love to have visited every country in South America (have currently only been to Buenos Aires - where we will likely end the trip).
