car wanted

I'll be travelling in Chile and Argentina for 2-3 months, if your car's for sale and under 2000euros, let me know!

If you buy in Argentina you can't leave the country with it. If you buy in Chile, you've got to put some effort into doing it legally in order to be able to travel and then re-sell.

Either way, you don't get much in that price range. I'm not saying don't do it; I'm just saying do your research before making any purchase.

Hope that's helpful.

I have already send you an inbox but i really think we can help each other out here! The paperwork involved in buying a car and taking it abroad isn't really that much of an effort. You can do it with just a tourist visa.

You just go to a SII (Sistema Impuestos Internos) office and get a RUT number right away which is valid for 3 months. With that you go to Registro Civil or to any kiosk to get a Certificado de Inscripcion. With that you go with the owner to any Notaria to authorize the transaction and that's it. You have to pay some taxes and notary costs which is about 100 dollars in total. Its a couple of hours no more.

Within 3 weeks you get your Padron saying the car is yours. Meanwhile you can take the car everywhere you want by carrying the old papers and your contract from the Notaria. I even managed to take it across the border with Argentina with the old papers. They check on the internet if the car is one your name, worked really well. Don't forget to by an insurance for Argentina! You need it to cross the border.

You have to check if the following paperwork come with the car (Papeles al Dia they say)

  • Padron (which says its your car)
  • Revision técnica (a yearly check if the car is in good shape)
  • Seguro Obligatorio (A obligatory car insurance.)
  • Permiso de Circulacion (Prove that tax has been payed)

Contact me if you want more information. I can also send you photos of my car.
