Quiet place in Chiang Mai area end of December
My wife and I are both residents in Bangkok and we are planning to go up north for Xmas and possibly new year.We are looking for a place where we can do a lot of daily walks in the country side, where there is good thai food
and a pool. We are not looking at ultra luxury ie like four seasons or Oriental but rather a local place with character.
many thanks in advance for your input.

Maybe check out the Away Suan Sawan in Mae Rim about 15km north of Chiang Mai city. It's in a beautiful peaceful area surrounded by rice fields and green hills, actually not far from the Four Seasons but a whole lot cheaper. There are quite a few mini-resorts popping up in the same area so it's worth searching for other options in Mae Rim. http://www.agoda.com/asia/thailand/chiang_mai/maps/mae_rim.htmlBook early! Places will fill up for the Christmas period soon.

Check out www.baanmonmuan.com They are located north of Chiang Mai city in the Mae Rim area. Their website will give you all the details. Their website doesn't mention a pool so if that's important then maybe you wont be interested. We have a reservation there in early December.3
Another place you might want to consider is Chiang Dao Nest. Check out the details atwww.nest.chiangdao.com Also they do have a pool. We stayed there last December and will be staying there again next month. The cabins arn't luxe but they are quite nice. Very quite and peaceful area.

Might want to reconsider the importance of a pool in December. Days are shorter/cooler and most pools around here aren't heated. But yes, Chiang Dao Nest would be another good place for relaxing in nature with plenty of great walking trails. Excellent food as well. It's not close to Chiang Mai though (75km north of the city).6
Many thanks everyon for your input. Whilst the Chiang Dao Nest does indeed loo enticing, it is fully booked. Has anyone tried Marisa Boutique Resort and Spa that also get very good reviews? We ar hesitating between Marisa and Mae Nai Gardens located in Mae Rim. Any comment??
