Managua To Ometepe

Greetings Travelers! We arrive late night to the Managua airport and plan to stay at the BW hotel. We wanted to know the best/quickest way to get to Ometepe the following morning. We hear there is a ferry from San Jorge at 930AM that takes an hour. Anyone know if we can catch a bus or such that will get us to San Jorge in time for the earliest ferry? Oh, we're not on a super tight budget so we can afford to pay for express transport.

Then we want to get to Little Corn Island. Suggestions on the quickest way there......without having to go all the way back to Managua Airport?

Thanks for any input. Travel well :-)

The easiest way will be a taxi from your hotel to San Jorge, should be around 40/50 dollars ( don"t arrange one in the BW, to expensive) Otherwise take a taxi from your hotel to the busstation for buses to Rivas, take a taxi from Rivas busstation to San Jorge.........

There are ferries every 2 hours to Ometepe from San Jorge. Fastest would be taxi hire from Managua to Rivas/San Jorge. or bus from Managua to Rivas and then taxi to San Jorge.

Thanks for the feedback. We've read it can be sketchy to take some of the taxi's. So if we take a taxi from Managua to San Jorge and we do NOT have the Best Western arrange it, do we just wait at the airport taxi stand and try to negotiate with one of the taxi drivers?

Exactly walk outside and ask cualquier taxista...., negotiate! At the receptiondesk of the BW is a pricelist for taxifares, so you can compare...no idea how much BW charges but i guess 75..

Thanks, Globaler. Very helpful. You aren't, by chance, a Nicaraguan tour guide, are you? :-) And can we use US Dollars throughout Nicaragua? Everyone seems to hint that you can. We weren't sure if we should bring Nicaraguan cordobas.

No thx, i am a dutch psyciatrical nurse who worked and travelled in Nicaragua 3 times..:-). And yes people accept us dollars but it"s better to have cordobas as well for food, bustransport, coffee, drinks, the ferrie etc. There should be a ATM at the airport for cordobas , and dollars as well...have fun....

I'll be in the same boat come January. Any idea of what a target price to negotiate would be? Is $40 reasonable?
