Afraid my weather will be bad so my 3 days in paraty were to be followed by 3 in grande. Should I scrap this or go anyway/?

Ilha grande in the rain is miserable, it's really awful. I've been there in October for a week, it was raining for 4 days - it was BAD, humid and COLD. Considering it's extremely expensive I really felt it was money throwed away to the garbage
I would never go to southern Brazil in any other period than summer (I was in Paraty in February and it was great) , if you see summer rain forecast it most probably be fine and clear, but beware of mid-season rain, I would avoid that place in that time if I was you.
If you are going out of this season just fly to Bahia

Actually the Summer is the most rainy season in the SouthEast... and it´s also the most incredibly hot. The good thing is that the rains are very strong but very short, they last like 10 minutes.
We´re not in the Summer yet, but the Spring is similar to it but with less rainfall.

When are you going?

The weather is pretty crazy in Rio, therefore, sometimes you think it´s going to rain and it doesn´t. A cold rainy day can be followed by a very sunny weather, so I wouldn´t remove Ilha Grande of your list. You won´t be getting six rainy days, that´s almost impossible.

I was hoping that and I got 4 days of bitter cold and constant rain, air temperature of 15 deg or so and 99% humidity. It was awful, maybe it was a bad luck? I can't tell...
Anyway I wouldn't risk paying heavy money again in that time of the year.

BTW Hot is good, that's why you go to tropical island. In the 3 sunny days when I was there in spring water was anyway very cold and not good for swimming. In summer water has nice soup temperature as we know from tropical locations.

Actually you don´t need to spend heavy money in Ilha Grande... you can just stay in a camping site... a few of them have tent rentals. Besides, take some food with you from the continent. With that, Ilha Grande can be very cheap and fun!

Indeed Ilha Grande with rain is awful, however, at this time of the year, it´s hard to foresee if it´s going to truly rain or not.

Camping is fun, but not so much in 15 deg and rain, right? ;-) At least I could watch some TV in warm room....

DO NOT go to Ilha Grande during rain. This is insanity, wait till you have proper weather conditions, its an amazing place but make sure the season is right. I've been there during July and was great except by one crushing storm and thats something you wanna avoid specially if going by sailboat like I did. You cant really predict how the weather there is going to be, and should wait for at least a little bit of rain, but make sure its the best conditions
