Peru - February 2012 for 2 weeks
So I have just started planning a trip to Peru February 1st for 2 weeks. I know its the rainy season but I can really only travel from November to February. I will be going by myself and am inexperienced in backpacking - especially by myself. I am 24 M and am looking for ideas as far as things to do in that timeframe, hostels to stay at, transportation, what to avoid, etc. I have a friend who lives in Lima so I will probabaly spend a couple days with him and travel the rest. I am interested in spending some time doing a little bit of everything - beaches, hiking, sight seeing, just taking it all in. I am a little worried about the weather but nothing I cant handle I am sure of. Hopefully, I could meet up with fellow travelers along the way but I dont know if a lot of people visit that time of year. Well, I would appreciate any advice ya'll have. Thanks in advance!1
You certainly should not worry about the weather at all; the only problem would be trying to trek in the high Andes, and you don't really have time to do that anyway. In fact, that is definitely the best time of the year for the beaches.2 weeks is not a lot of time for Peru, especially if you are planning to travel anywhere by bus. I think you'll need to narrow down your itinerary just a bit. Do you plan on taking in Macchu Piccu, and the nearby Sacred valley region? If so, you could also fit in Arequipa and the Colca Canyon, which would include some great hiking. That itinerary would need at least one flight, probably from Lima to Cusco. But it's really hard to see how you could fit any beach time in, w/ only 2 weeks.

If you're into hiking, head to Huaraz! Great town and you can arrange tonnes of hiking trips from there - either solo or guided. You can get completely outfitted there as well. If you are interested, check out the the possibility of staying with the Delgado family ... I can give more info is you'd like.3
For only 2 weeks, I'd take the Overnite bus from Lima to Arequipa--Cruz del Sur is great. Do Colca Canyon for two days, then head to Puno--throw a rock in the Lake and leave. If possible take the Tourist bus to Cusco from Puno--very interesting stops.Probably best to base yourself in Cusco, then visit Sacred Valley towns, local ruins, Machu Picchu, ec. Fly back to lima on Star Air.
