One month trip to Asia. Need tips!

I'm in my final year of studies, and I have decided use money I earned this summer to do some travelling in December :) This will be my first time travelling to Asia, and I will be going on my own. It would be great to get some comments on my schedule, and also, some advice for a fist timer! :)

I would like to spend the NYE in Singapore, and then I have no idea what to do :) I can leave from HK later than on the 2nd, even on the 7th or 10th. I just need some ideas :)

Date Leaving From To Date Arriving
4.12.2012-15:05 London Heathrow Hong Kong 5.12.2012-14:25
9.12.2012-19:45 Hong Kong Ha Noi 10.12.2012-18:45
14.12.2012-14:10 Ha Noi Ho Chi Minh 14.12.2012-16:15
18.12.2012-21:35 Ho Chi Minh Bangkok 18.12.2012-23:05
22.12.2012-17:45 Bangkok Phuket 22.12.2012-19:05
29.12.2012-22:00 Phuket Singapore 30.12.2012-00:50
01.01.2013-17:00 Singapore Hong Kong 01.01.2013-20:55
02.01.2013-00:25 Hong Kong London Heathrow 02.01.2013-05:00

I would like to do some sightseeing, but also some leisure and beautiful beaches - that's why Phuket.

I think you should pick fewer cities. Or skip Vietnam and just go to Thailand. There is so much to see in each country. Save either Vietnam or Thailand for next time. You could go to Phu Quoc in Vietnam for the beach.

Sentosa usually has something for NYE. Might be worth looking into.

In your shoes, I would just do Thailand and perhaps Singapore, although Singapore hotels are more expensive, as are Hong Kong's. Thailand is great value and you will find it easier to meet people (in my experience) since you will be travelling alone. You could easily do the entire month in Thailand alone and do a more comprehensive route which includes north as well as south, cities as well as rural areas plus beaches.

Don't forget that every time you go from place to place you will spend a lot of time in transit so you lose at least a half a day each time. Especially since it will be your first time you Asia it will be very foreign to you, the food, the currencies, language, and all that...every time you switch countries you will have to re-adjust.

Hey thanks for answers. My trip is inspired by what one of my friends has done. I don't like staying in one place for too long, and to be honest I was afraid that whole week in phuket is too much :)

All cities and Phuket? Think you need more variety, stay in Hanoi longer and go upto Sapa area for a few days? I would fly to BKK and go to Vietnam.

I would prefer to have areas with access to water in which I could swim :)

Yes but the whole of the Vietnam coast is near the sea but you might not want to swim in it in December. Also Hanoi and HCMC are not on the coast. You would be better off going to Hoi An and Nha Trang and Mui Ne.
