A few days in North CyprusWe're going to be in Cyprus in March for about 10 days and were thinking of spending the first few days in the North. We're travelling with a toddler so must rent a car and enjoy seeing the sites and hiking away from the crowds. My questions are:
1. We will be renting our car in Larnaca and so understand that we will need to insure it again when crossing to the North. Can anyone give me an estimate on how much i should expect to pay for the whole bundle (that is not only 3rd party).
2. Any recommendations on cheap places to stay, preferably in less touristy areas would be greatly appreciated. We do not expect anything more than a clean room and good hospitality.

you can cross the border by Pyla, and need to make an extra insurance, for hired cars that costs about EUR25 for 3 days, but as I remember, you can choose longer period also. (Sorry, no idea, how much it costs for a week or so). As far as I know, they offer only 3rd party insurance, and once you crossed the border, drive safe, there are many radars on the sides of the street, so if you don`t want to have any problems, when you are coming back, you respect, speed limit. Turkish and turkish cypriots are driving a bit brave, so always be careful. And don`t mention to the car hire company, that you are planning to go to North Cyprus (anyway they will tell you, that is not allowed with rented cars, it is true, that if you have an accident, or break down, you are on your own, their insurance is not covered on the North).
Nice places to visit is Famagusta, Salamis. The old center of Famagusta, Othello castle, the Ghost city (on the beach side only). Than you can drive up to Karpasia, with it`s turtle beaches and untouched nature. You can drive up to the edge of the island and there you will find a little church, called Apostolos Andreas. (It is situated in a donkey reserve. Visit also Kerynia and Bellapais abbey.
There is a beautiful 5 star hotel Kaya Artemis is called in the city of Bogaz, which is maybe nice also just to look at.
For accommodation unfortunately I can not give you any advise as I never stayed overnight.
Turkish lira to Euro is 2:1. 2 TL = 1 EUR. (Make sure, you don`t bring back any TL, as they it won`t be exchanged in the banks or anywhere, but mainly you can pay everywhere in Euros or maybe even in Pounds.)
Well, all your trip to the North Cyprus will be like a time - travel, too, but if you are in Cyprus, I think, it is very nice to do a trip as you plan.
I hope, that helps you, but contact me, if you need any more info.
