Anyone traveling from Lusaka to Dar es Salaam in mid December (and back)?

Hi all,

I'm trying to find some company for the trip from Lusaka to Dar es Salaam in mid December. I wish to arrive to Dar latest on Monday 17th of December (which means leaving from Lusaka on Saturday or latest Sunday if traveling by bus). But my time table is quite flexible and can also leave few days earlier. Some company for the return trip would be nice too! I will travel from Dar back to Lusaka around 8th of January. The train leaves from Dar that day but the bus is OK too and I can stay in Dar few more days if needed. My plan was to travel to Dar by bus and come back by bus or train but these can still be changed.

If there is anyone traveling those routes that time, please let me know! :)

i would bear in mind that the train is often 15-40 hours late but the bus is a bit terrifying so its a toss up.. i took the train and it was one of the best journeys i've ever made, but it WAS 18 hours late...

Ok, thank's for your advices. I think I will travel to Dar by bus and then come back by train if I'm still alive after the bus trip. :)

I took the bus between Lusaka and Dar a couple of years ago, there was only one company running the route which if I remember correctly was called Falcon, the bus was an ancient 3 by 2 rattletrap. Most uncomfortable, I debussed in Mbeya, spent the night and got on a much more comfortable tanzanian domestic service the next day. Although given the inherent lateness of the Tazara trains and the fact that precision air are charging a preposterous $805 for the return flights better options don't seem to exist.
