Another Visa Question

Hi! Came to Vietnam on October 15 and was planning to stay 6 months, the maximum time allowed on my visa. Now i am considering staying for 1 year. When my visa runs out on April 15, 2013, can i cross the border somewhere and just be able to re-enter for another 6 months or do i have to go back to the USA and spend 90 days there in order to be able to return. I do have a 5 year multi-entry Visa for vietnam. Any input or advice would truly help. Thanks in advance.

What are the conditions of your 5 year visa.

i think my visa allows me to leave and re-enter Vietnam while i am here. I'm pretty sure it doesn't allow me to remain in this country for 5 years.

I never heard of a FIVE-year visa !!! Normally, it is 3 months max if you are a tourist, 1 year if you have a work permit. The tourist visa is renewable one time for 3 months, the 1-year business visa renewable every year. WHICH KIND OF VISA DO YOU HAVE ????, In any case, when your visa has expired, anybody can just fly to Bangkok or Luang Prabang or Vientiane with a letter of invitation from the Viet immigration ; all you need to do is to prove that you went out of Vietnam (I have a friend who flies to Bangkok, gets out of the airport to show that he went out of Vietnam, go through the Thai immigration, re-enters the international departure hall immediately and flies back to Hanoi, all that in one day).

From the name on the OP, I believe he or she is a Vietnamese overseas. In which case, a 5 year visa is correct.

Oops ! Again ! If she has a Viet Khieu visa, the problem is quite different.
