Help with itinerary

I am planning a 2 weeks stay in Japan in December this year. I have been to Japan a few times already, and have visited places like Tokyo, Kyoto, Nara, Hiroshima, Hakone and Osaka.

This time, I would like to see something else, maybe off the beaten track. I was first thinking of Sapporo, but am really unsure of what to do there and if it is worth the trip. Maybe something around Sapporo?

What about the South of Japan? Anything worth seeing South of Hiroshima?

Any help appreciated.

Thank you

I will be going from Dec 04 to Dec 18. That is a lot of great stuff. Thank you so much!

With that time frame, you'll hit snow, of course, in Sapporo. I lived there for 7 years and didn't find all that much to do for sightseeing in December.

Visit nearby Otaru or go to Lake Toya. Search for my previous posts on things to see and do there.

Certainly. As others recommended, Kyushu + Yakushima is very good.

You could also consider "the other" coast:

Kinosaki Onsen, Tottori, Amanohashidate, Izumo, Matsue, Iwami Ginzan, Hagi

And Sado Island further north.

I went to Hokkaido for two weeks and I thought the area was fairly uninteresting. I would skip the trip to Sapporo if I was you.
