10 days barcelona as "home base" for northern spain. help?Hi everyone,
helping out my brother (30s, single, active) in his itinerary. he'll be flying in to barcelona nov 21 and will be travelling alone until dec 2 (he will meet us in madrid by then- already bought barcelona-madrid plane tickets). given this time frame, can you help us plan a rough itinerary for him?
he's mainly interested in FOOD (he owns a restaurant back home), wines, night life, culture and a few important or must-visit historical sites/museums. mainly he wants to be able to relax, eat good food, and just immerse himself in the spanish culture. he's taking a much deserved break from work as an entrepreneur so he really wants to make the most of his days in northern spain. he's also on a budget (1000 USD or less for the 10 days? he is ok to splurge a little more for good food.
thinking of going to san sebastian, barcelona.. any more suggestions as for his solo trip?
thanks and hope youc can advise soon as his trip is near

1Hi - even if the budget is not quoted in EUR, I can already see it is pretty low. Assuming it includes accomodation ?
Especially seeing his interests -food, wine, nightlife etc. Fortunately these first two are quite cheap in Spain - especially if you look around and stay away from the main tourist sites.
San Sebastian is really great for food, but given the budget, it is also a while from Barcelona, and travelling costs money. Closer to here is the nice small city of Girona, the sea-side town of Sitges etc.
Just an opinion but if he wants to relax and eat well - might as well stay around Barcelona and do day trips. Hotel/hostal prices should be lower due to low season.

Welcome to TT!
As he's interested in wine, close to Barcelona, he could go to (click on the link for more info) to visit some Cava cellars. A visit to nearby Vilafranca del Penedès could be interesting for him too. He could also make a daytrip to Girona and another one to Tarragona. And, of course, visit Barcelona itself. There are more interesting daytrips from Barcelona as well as other interesting places that would require (or make advisable) to stay overnight out of Barcelona so he could spend all the time in that area of the country if he wants.
If he goes to San Sebastián, he can enjoy great food there. In addition to the visit to the city, he could go to nearby Getaria to visit some Txacolí cellars, visit the town of Pasaia, the town of Hondarribia...
