Sevilla to Granada, bus or train ?
I've heard both journeys are about 3 hours? and would imagine the bus is a bit cheaper?Is there any need to book in advance or will I be safe next week?

You should be fine without booking in advance. Be aware there's a general strike on Nov. 14th though.I've heard both journeys are about 3 hours?

Yes, the bus is cheaper.
Take a look at the webs of Alsa (the bus company) and RENFE (the train company) in order to get info about schedules and fares.

Thank you very, very much all.The strike on 14 November explains why I couldn't get any tickets for the Alhambra that day (see previous post)
gawkabout - my slightly strange itinerary is:
Day 1: arrive in Sevilla (around midday)
Day 2: Sevilla (possibly do day trip to Cordoba)
Day 3: Sevilla (possibly do day trip to Cordoba)
Day4: Travel to Granada (by hook or by crook)
Day 5: Granada
Day 6 : Travel back to Sevilla ( not before visiting the Alhambra at 8.30am, which was the only ticket I could get )
Day 7: Go back to my cold country
Any suggestions / advice on the above would be greatly appreciated.
I know these places deserve longer but unfortunately I cannot afford it.

We've done this journey both by bus and train.There are more buses every day and as stated above are cheaper. We did the bus trip this July and it went non-stop (ie no annoying detours) direct from Seville to Granada in 3 hours. Comfortable air-conditioned bus.
If I were doing the trip again I'd take the bus.

Hi i just now bought a ticket for Seville 1 to 4 th Dec.I am used to taking random roads at short notice but this would be my first trip in europe like that.I do not speak a word of spanish.Any word of caution? Is it easy to get to the city central from airport(without taxi),budget accmdtn?From above disscusion i can see Coroba & Alhambra are must to see. any thing in particular thr ?Would much appreciate any suggestions.Thanks in advanceEdited by: anantpalawat

Don't worry and enjoy your trip!
Perhaps, with only 4 days you even don't go out of Sevilla... Be flexible and plan once on the ground.
You can use the web of hostelworld or the web of booking to look for accommodation. Booking lists all sort of accommodation (not only budget) so look for one within your budget.
Take the standard safety precautions (street sense, watch your luggage...) and you'll be fine.
There's a bus from the airport to the city center.

anantpalawat - Just got back at the weekend. Bear in mind the following:- hardly anyone speaks English so take a phrasebook/ smartphone or learn some basics (Coffee Break Spanish podcasts on itunes are excellent)
- my UK visa card did not work on the bus or train websites which was very surprising and and annoying but we had no problem buying the tickets we wanted on the day last week. One of the trains was booked up so go to the ALSA and RENFE links above to have a look at times and you can see if any are sold out
- no one spoke English at the stations so learn some basics or be prepared to gesture and write things down.
- we had no problems getting from stations to town/ city centres and people were very helpful. As long as you can say the name of the place people will tell you which bus to get and where. Just have change ready. It's about 1.3E for the bus but it varies slightly between towns.
- get the EA bus from Seville airport to the centre/ or near it. Get to the bus stop asap as a long queue may form and you may miss it. Our bus was packed worse than a London tube train at Kings Cross and we nearly passed out so if you have water or an oxygen mask, take it with you! It costs 2.40E
- the train to Cordoba was great and only takes around 45 mins. I'm surprised no one on here told me. The fast train costs about 20E and the slow one which takes 1.20 h costs about 12E. We took both.
- One regret is we didn't see the sunset in Cordoba and stay overnight so if you can change your plans I would.
- Having said that Granada is incredible and was easily the best of the three so make an overnight stop there if you can. It's three hours by bus and the return ticket costs almost 80E

Mellifluous2010 Thank you very much for taking time in giving valuable suggestions.Sure i would keep that in mind.I was wondering about the same things. Worse than tube trains ? hehe well what can i say i am indian and believe me used to much worse(google local trains in mumbai haah even i have to think twice before taking them).Its a pitty i am there for just 4 days so i think i will have to make a hard choice between cordoba/alhambra/granada..I will just deceide at random once i touch the ground..Thanks once again
