Anderman coast advise required!
After researching the area for the past couple of months I just can't decide where are the best places to go. We only have 6/7nights in the area, and the trouble is my husband wants a chilled out time, ie not too much traveling (as traveling for wk before also).I have 2 musts and that is to stay on phi phi island, and also to visit phang nga bay. I believe it is not possible to visit phang nga bay from phi phi? The only options I can see is to stay a few nights at either Phuket or krabi. Krabi/Ao nang looks much more desirable, (and on my original list of places i wished to visit), but Phuket would be much easier to fit in and would allow an extra night at phi phi due to travel arrangements. I am put off from what I hear about the island, should I be? Or is there nice quiet areas we can stay and make this day trip easily? Would you chose Phuket over easiness sake, or Krabi an area I would really like to visit?

IMO, a day tour is sufficient.

Never. I'd always take the Krabi area over Phukit.

If you take Naithon beach on Phuket for example you could probably not find a more pristine undeveloped beach in the whole region and a million times better than Ao Nang/Krabi with its burger kings, McDonalds, Irish pubs and silly old pampered tourists.
That being said I know a delightful place that is very unspoiled and is exactly in the location you are looking for where you can do a day trip to Phi Phi (although you will have to charter your own boat). So as not to reveal its location to the swarms that go to Krabi and Pattaya I will send you a PM with the details.
