Help please - where to stay in Maldives with teenagers seeking action
Teenage boys - 15 & 18By action, I mean surfing and partying.
Nice resort. Not overly expensive.

I'm sure that people will correct me if I'm wrong, but it's my understanding that there's no "Western" nightlife given it's an Islamic country. For surfing, have a look here http://www.surftravel.com.au/destinations/Maldives-6
As for "nice resort, not overly expensive", you may want to include a ballpark figure so people can offer some suggestions.
A quick http://www.google.com search shows "cheap" rooms are available for around US$140 per night (per room).

Maldives and inexpensive do not go in the same sentence..This place is geared for the rich and pampered...Do you know you are not allowed contact with the locals except the ones waiting on you...You can not go to the villages, meet the natives or whatever...Indian "businessmen" took over years ago.And to keep the locals in line, they limit contact between them and the outside world. If not,;;The natives would realise how poorly they live, surrounded by such beauty. And the tourists would see how poorly the natives live in such poverty.4
Fivejacks is right , Maldives and inexpensive do not club together . You have to pay premium for everything , from accommodation to water , food , drink , water sports almost everything . People even buy water bottles from airport before heading for their resorts . So Maldives and budget location for that you might need to compromise a bit with resorts and facilities .Here is a suggestion
http://www.asdu.com/ ( Low budget )
http://olhuvelimaldives.com ( mid range)

Yes i don't think much partying ,but because most of the resorts are isolated from locals you can have a drink in a lot of them, well that might be good for Mum and Dad and the 18 year old---if the kids are reasonably experienced surfers, the most cost effective way ( in a lot of cases ) is doing a live aboard boat trip, these are pretty much surf focused, although i have heard of a few boats that combine other activities as well as surfing, either way your probably looking at around $2000us a week, maybe more maybe less, depending on high and low seasons. Google surfing maldives and go shopping.7
Agree with Nextstar ..Olhuveli is good value for money. You can also check Bandos and Ranveli. But yeah its difficult to plan a cheap vacation in Maldives. Try finding a place in North Male atoll or south male atoll as this will at least save you the high seaplane transfer fees. Quite often you can find good deals at hoteltravel.com although their listing is limited. I usually find agoda to be useful. I found this to have some useful tips http://www.squidoo.com/maldives-travel-guide2 . Do check out the reviews by guests staying at your shortlisted resorts. They often provide good tips.
