There is no exact date of closure. It depends on the weather and amount of snowfall. Just keep your eyes on the local newspaper.

Bonjour from Islamabad,

Khunjerab, a high pass, 4780 m, the official date of closure is 31st December, but once it receives snowfall, expect the closure earlier .

End of December, neither a good time to be on the pass on cycles nor that seems feasible to me because there are no settlements between the pass and Dhee.

Au contraire, the Chinese don't allow the cycling on the Chinese side of KKH, so please keep that mind.

You could do it from Sust, after your arrival in Pakistan from China.

Bon voyage mon ami ..

The exact closing date of Pak-China border is 31st of Dec,opens 1st of May every year.

The Chines border official won't allow you to cycle over Khunjerab pass so the only option is to keep your bicycles on the roof top of abus and start cycling after crossing Ata Abad lake (near Karimabad) Hunza.

why cycle the Karakorum highway in mid-winter? There might be too cold, too heavy snow there. I plan to cycle the same route in Sept next year. Wish you a wonderful journey, anyway.

Bonjour from Islamabad,

Tbe route from Sust to Hussaini and Gulmit, and Karimabad to Gilgit, one should be prepared for severe weather conditions, even snow in upper Hunnza but the route Gilgit-Chilas would be warm and sunny.
