I recall that it was about mid November when I was able to visit Sierra Chincua 2 years ago. I was in Tzintz for DOD and then used Morelia as a base for music fest, travel to Zihau etc. I kept checking with the tourist office in Morelia for the opening of the reserves.
I think there is a monarch watch group that may have better info, but I do not see anything updated. I hope you get the chance to go if you haven't before. One of the most amazing things I have ever done. I like Sierra better than El Rosario, but either place is unlike any other experience I have ever had! Enjoy!

2I don't know what the weather is like at or near the Monarch Butterfly Sanctuaries, but it's been miserable here in the Pátzcuaro area for the last 4 or more days. Cold temperatures and steady drizzle. We haven't been out since last Wednesday as we got the flu.
Here's the weather outlook for Uruapan, which is considerably lower in elevation than Pátzcuaro. It's the nearest reporting station.
Weather for Morelia here The Morelia weather station is act the MLM International Airport, about 17 miles northeast of the city, at Álvaro Obregon, Michoacán.
Toluca weather. Toluca is higher than any of the preceding listed weather stations.
