Living in Melbourne

Im going to be heading to Melbourne in late January and I was wondering if anyone had any work/living tips? Ill be going for a working holiday and be staying and working in melbourne for just over 2 months. Im hoping to find a house with fellow travellers, with cheap rent...a little more long term than a hostel. Thanks!

Everything is relative but Melbourne lacks cheap rent, especially in inner suburbs close to amenity. In terms of neighbourhoods I recommend the inner north - Brunswick, Northcote, North Fitzroy...

Try gumtree.com for short term rentals. It may be a of a struggle, most room rentals will be looking for the returning students but good luck.

IMO Brunswick and North Fitzroy are not that cheap. Northcote would be a better option.

Good luck.

Rental rates in melbourne can be shocking. As mentioned above, the cool areas are Brunswick, Northcote, Fitzroy and North Fitzroy, Richmond, Hawthorn.... The list goes on, but you'll probably get the best bang for your buck in Northcote or one suburb north in Thornbury.
