Feb. or March Destination (warm!) for Solo Female Traveller?

I was just about to suggest New Zealand...........its the one place I've been to where lone female travellers are very very common. I preferred South Island but North Island is maybe culturally more interesting. Anyway its a beautiful country. Their summer holidays are in December but we were there from November to February and the weather was fine the whole time.31
South Pacific islands might be depressing as a woman traveling alone. They seem like big honeymoon/romantic getaway destinations and resort lands with little else to offer. Wrong?Definitely wrong, or I wouldn't have suggested them. Yes, the honeymoon resorts are for couples, but I generally travel solo,and spend a lot of time in Solomon Islands, generally staying with locals or in villages rather than resorts.
The people are very friendly and helpful, and if you avoid the tourist traps, you could have an amazing cultural experience.

All good suggestions---I would favor Sri Lanka or Turkey. As to the 'female traveling alone' business, everywhere is safe if you use common sense. Don't give that a thought---. You may want to check out my blog http://carolkiecker.wordpress.com I've done lots of 'lone female' traveling.33
I've been living in Bali for the last seven years and although the south is extremely touristy, central and northern Bali are stunning. it's the monsoon at the moment but it never rains all day and night. If you go to the right places, Bali is full of culture and colour. Let me know if you want any further info. I can recommend areas and places to stay. Goodluck34

My favourites are sideman, (pronounced cedar man) and Munduk, pm me if you want to for more info . when are you going again? Nyepi, the Balinese new year is an amazing time to go, around end of March. but Bali is beautiful all year round. PM me if you want some more info.36

I have been in Bali this october for seven days. Just loved it. Just avoid the crowded places like Kuta (really, do not go there, was awful). I loved Canggu close to Tanah Lot. It's a nice place with a black beach and cool and outgoing people. I spent some days in Ubud and travelled afterward all the way south to the Bangan Beach close to Uluwatu (temple). Ubud and Tanah Lot has a lot of culture whereas Bangan Beach has only a quit beach to offer. I am female and i was travelling with my friend (female as well), i always felt save at alle places in bali except of Kuta/ Legian. The people there were disrespectful and we had to listed to a loft of dirty small talk while going to dinner or doing some shopping in the evening.The other place i really liked was Vietnam. Spent there 10 days with 4 other friends. During our journey from the south of vietnam (Ho Ch Minh City) to Hanoi in the north including the Halong Bay we have met several girls travelling alone. They felt pretty save by themselves. Vietnam definitely has a lot of culture to offer and beaches, although i havn't been to any beaches in Vietnam.

Wow, Just discovered this branch on the thorn tree. When did I become old at 45? Great question on where to escape this winter. I am thinking the same and was thinking of the Philippines.I have been thru a good chunk of Southeast Asia, all of Central America (except Panama), Colombia, India, Egypt and East Africa.
I am looking for a warm, cost effective country to spend 5-6 weeks in jan-feb. Please keep giving ideas.
I would recommend any of above mentioned countries/regions.

Markpenn: Any beach recommendations in India?Have you considered someplace else in South America? It's nice and warm (and cost effective) in many areas in Jan-Feb.

The only beach I saw was Goa area, very nice, very simple but I got sick there so memories aren`t so fond. Kerala area has nice backwaters but beach was nothing special.Yes, Buenos Aires and Montevideo are being tossed around as possibles but my Spanish is limited.

Markpenn: No idea about travel costs in Arg and Ura, but it was very inexpensive a few years ago when I traveled to Peru. I'm sure each country is different. You may want to post on those country's threads for advice.And don't worry about your lack of Spanish. I did fine and I speak nothing more than gracias and hola. :-)

I wouldn't go somewhere like Costa Rica in March - still the rainy season!I'm doing the same as you this year, traveling alone for some winter sun (January). I am going to volunteer at a game reserve in South Africa. Take a look at One365 online for opportunities to volunteer worldwide. x
