November day trip Akureyri to Myvatn
Is it possible to do a day trip from Akureyri to Myvatn and back by public transport in November? We have two nights (part of a Northern Lights package), but the add-on tour price for Myvatn is super expensive. What about car rental options in November - not crazy about snowy roads, though. Also, is snowshoeing something that is done in Iceland - so far all I see is skiing/snowboarding.
Any suggestions for things to do in Akureyri in November would be helpful.
Thanks

The trip was great, though significantly cold - 0 to - 6 C most days and a fair bit of wind, Tons of snow in Akureyri and a fair bit in Reykjavik (not normal for this time of year). We did rent a car and had 3 nice days of exploring. However, the road conditions (ok, but not great) and just general remoteness of areas outside of the two cities is kind of weird in the wintertime - I'm sure it's a whole different world in the summer. We were really glad we got the cars and www.thrifty.is worked great for us.Thanks again - it was a really good trip,
