Colombia itinerary help!
Hi there -I will be flying into Colombia around Mex City around 20th Jan. I want to stay for 3-4wks
I have a rough idea of what I want to do / see but I'm struggling with where to fly into and where to exit?!
Amongst other things, I really want to go to Barranquilla Carnival - so potentially i need to do that last as 9-12 Feb, however I also want to do an Amazon Basin trip - maybe 5 days (is that achievable in that timeframe?) and I will be meeting a friend in Peru (Macchu Pichu) around 20 Feb
I would be prepared to take some internal flights (subject to cost)
Should i fly into Bogota then onto Leticia, Amazon then travel northwards towards Cartegna / Barranquilla, then fly back down towards Cuzco? Its a shame i'm going back on myself somewhat!
The other consideration is do I miss the Carnival altogether and take the sensible North to South route?
thanks for your help/any suggestions! This is my first solo trip to SA and I really want to maximise my time ;-)

I think it would be quite difficult (if not close to impossible) to fly into Leticia and then travel north. You would have to fly back to Bogotá as there isn't really any land infrastructure to get you north to Cartagena. You could do Leticia and the Amazon last, and then fly Iquitos-Lima-Cuzco after crossing the border. So you could do:
January 20: Fly into Bogotá from Mexico City
January 20 - February 8: See Bogotá, go to Medellín, the coffee region, Cartagena, Santa Marta, San Gil or wherever else you are interested in, but generally heading north
Or:
January 20: Fly into Cartagena from Mexico City
January 20 - February 8: Make a loop south through Medellín, coffee region, Bogotá, and back up to Santa Marta before heading to Baranquilla
February 9 - 12: Barranquilla Carnaval
February 13: Fly Baranquilla-Bogotá-Leticia (if possible)
February 13 - 18: Leticia and Amazon area
February 19: Fly Iquitos-Lima-Cuzco (if possible ... maybe this would take two days?)
February 20: Meet up with your friend in Peru
Good luck! Sounds super exciting!
