Kerala - kochi. Any must see spots?

Hey,

We're going to be in Kerala Dec 12th - 27th, we are starting in Varkala (for 5/6 days) and then spending Xmas in Kochi, we were thinking of doing a backwater boat on route to Kochi and I was wondering if anyone could recommend any? We were also thinking of going to Munnar, has anyone been? Does anyone know any amazing spots in Kerala that were are missing out and should check out on route to Kochi from Varkala?

Any advice is much appreciated :)

Cheers,
Tilly

On the right hand side of this page there is a Advanced search box, type in Kerala itinerary and see what you get.

Yes. It's a nice hill station worth visiting. Has some plantations around.

Hi Tilly,

Wayanad is one of the most beautiful and least explored districts in Kerala. It is a place I would recommend..

Munnar can be definitely recommended. I also liked Kottayam for its interesting churches and the Kottayam - Alleppey ferry ride.

Wayanad is also nice but it is way beyond Kochi, so quite far from your planned route.

You can have a look at my trip report on http://meczko.wordpress.com/ for some practical details and recommendations.

My top tips in the region would be:

Varkala for chilling on the beach.
Alleppey for a backwaters tour.
Kochi for a historic town.

I've spent a bit of time in the region and so you might want to read my itinerary for more information and inspiration.
