A Day in Bangkok - Something differentHello,
We are going to Laos for 2 weeks this December, but due to us flying Thai Airways, we have opted for a night (and day) in Bangkok.
I'm really looking forward to a night out in Bangkok, but are a bit stumped regarding the day time...
We have visited the Grand Palace, the big reclining Buddha, the temple thats popular at sunset and been on a trip down the river.
So I'm not too sure now what to do. We really aren't into shopping, so would be up for something completely different if anyone has any ideas!

4Go down to Khlong Toei and cross the river by boat to bang nam pheung by ferry. Rent bicycle and ride along the narrow roads and fruit plantations to prapadaeng. Eat at the river there, cross to the other side and cycle to the erawan elephant museum.
Use thang rotfai sai khao road to Bangna, cross back over the river and back to where you rented the bikes.
If you go on a weekend include the market at bang nam pheung, good food stall there.

7A trip down to Mahachai on the single line railway from Wong Wian Yai Station in Thonburi is a great way to spend the better part of a day. The train takes 1 hour and costs 10 baht each way, and Mahachai is a paradise for seafood lovers. Go in the morning, have an excellent seafood lunch on the second floor open-walled restaurant beside the pedestrian ferry, check out the fresh and dry seafood markets, then head back to Bangkok. You can continue on to Samut Songkhram and Amphawa if you want, then take the bus back to Bangkok.
Here's a "how to" video Mahachai - Mae Khlong Railway
Koh Kret is also another good option. I believe the Chao Phraya River Express boats go there now.

Only a few, during rush hour. Inquire a ferry pier which ones. If you head to Ko Kret during the week the market in Pak Kret (before crossing over to the island) is actually more interesting. Ko Kret itself still is good for a cycling tour around the island then however.
On weekends most shops at the local market are closed, but the Thai weekend market on Kret island is buzzing with visitors.
If you head to Mahachai try to include Maekhlong and Amphawa for an overnight trip. The seafood market in Mahachai is ok, but I think the railway market is more fun to watch. Plus overnight along a khlong in nearby Amphawa is great too. Busy on weekends with Thai visitors, very quiet during the week.
But even on weekends the market and most shops are closing around 10pm and it is very quiet afterwards.
Plenty of resorts along the river and khlongs outside of Amphawa as well, some very nice ones.
Hire a bicycle and go along the river to further markets and temples along the river.

11To answer #7,
I have been to many aquariums and frankly speaking, while the Siam Ocean World is decent, it is way too overpriced and not worth the ridiculous price. If I were to make a comparison with some of the other aquariums in Asia, I'd say that the Beijing, Osaka and Kuala Lumpur aquariums are many times better.
Frankly speaking, quality-wise, I don't think I'd pay more than 500 baht for the Siam Ocean World admission.

That happens when someone goes through the posts fast and wants to add additional info on trips others mentioned.
At least it provides some more info for others who do bike and read this topic too.
Unlike posts of others who just enjoy pointing out mistakes others made.
