We're off to Sri Lanka for the first time in 3 weeks and wondered whether anyone has any tips about getting a taxi from the airport to our hotel? We're staying in Colombo for 3 days and wondered whether anyone has any ideas or tips on what we should see. We're OK after as have arranged a driver to take us out and about after that-( recommended and used by our son). Our driver will be dropping us off at Tangalle for 3 days-any advice on the best way to get back to Colombo would be gratefully received -we'd welcome any tips really. Cheers2
Getting back from tangalle should be v easy to colombo.Just stay on the main road and wave at any air con pvt bus passing by- they will stop and take you in. The charge is only a few $s to Colombo city.
Alternative is to take bus to Galle town and then take the tourist aircon bus (more comfortable than the former) to Kottawa/Maharagama.(1.30 hrs to 2 hrs).Cost about $4. Frequency every 30 mins or less. Then take a taxi /bus to Colombo city.Frequency every few minutes. Hope your bags are not too large and easy 'carry on'.
It will cost mega bucks if you hired a pvt car from tangalle to Colombo city.

HiWhile you are travelling to Tangalle from Colomco stop a while at Matara and go to the railway station and book a seat in the intercity train back to Colombo for the date you will be returning. That is the easy and best way to get back to Colombo. You only will have to take a bus to Matara from Tangalle about 30 minutes.
