Travel to Ngpali - is it safe?Hi - we have booked a 17 day tour in Myanmar for this Dec/Jan, which includes 3 days in Ngpali beach - however, we are concerned about the current civil unrest in the Rakhine state. Advice seems to be against all but esential travel to the Rakhine state.
Is this correct? Is Ngpali beach area affected? (looking at the map, it appears to be right in middle of the Rakhine State).
If so, can anyone suggest an alternative beach itinerary, in place of Ngpali for our last 3 nights?

1about as dangerous as any yorkshire woman on a dark night, I would say ;-o
the problems are further north Rhakine state I doubt it will affect your trip, unless you are booked to go to Sittwe and Mrauk U the democratic military govt will keep you well away from these areas of "insurrection"
Chaungtha beach is cheaper and closer to Yangon but not as nice,
all will be well, dont worry enjoy it and have great time you will love Burma and its people
we mostly advise independent travellers

2Much as Monty says.
I've had an email, in the last few weeks, from a contact in Yangon and he says anywhere south of Toungup is fine with reference to the current troubles in Rakhine.

3I had some friends down there a couple weeks ago and they said there was a curfew for all vehicles after sunset.....There wasn't any problem in Ngapali but I guess the police are playing it safe.

8Thanks everyone for your replies - very helpful (and very amusing! - though there's nowt wrong wit Yorkshire women ;) )
It seems the consensus is that Ngpali is safe and that the 'troubles' are further north above Toungup.
However, Toungup doesn't seem a great distance from Ngpali and our main concern remains the UK Government advice not to travel to the State unless essential (which means that our insurance will be invalid).
We'd welcome any up-dates any of you have over the next few weeks from your contacts over there.
