Poste Restante in Bucharest

Hello,

I need to have a package sent to me, and was wondering if the Poste Restante services in Bucharest are reliable. I'll be recieving expesive electronic equipment so if there's any chance that it might not arrive I don't want to risk it.

Also, any recommendations on post offices and pick up procedures would be most welcome.

Thanks,
Mozad

Hi....

Yeah, I would trust it.
I've had deliveries on a delayed pick-up basis from The UK to Romania - never had any issues whatsoever.
The only thing I would say, is that sometimes the package might be opened by customs in Romania.
It's common practice still in Eastern Europe, not just in Romania.
Best of luck.

I don't think it will matter if it is sent post restante or to a specific address. The package is likely to be opened and if it is an expensive item, it is likely to be held until you pay the necessary import taxes and or customs duties. Personally for an expensive item, I wouldn't risk it unless absolutely necessary.

mmmhhhhh. I'm getting my laptop and iphone shipped, so about $1500 worth of stuff, which I definitely don't want to risk.

battybilly, have you ever had anything expensive shipped to you in Romania? And if so, did you need to pay import tax?

Ruth, do you know of somewhere in the region that is less likely to open packages? Maybe in Bulgaria or Turkey?

Thanks both for the replies

I had a camera posted to me, when mine was lifted.
There was no tax to pay, but the package had been opened and resealed by the authorities. No damage.
Oh - and I'm familiar with cross-continent postage to Bulgaria.... Same thing usually happens.

To the best of my knowledge, all packages are likely to be opened because of concerns about customs import duties.

I suspect that duty payments depend some on the price of the item and whether it is new in box or not.

Ask battybilly whether this was the case for his camera.
