You don't really need one as all the borders do Visa on Arrival.Embassy visas used to be good for two months (VoA only 1 month) so were worth getting if staying away from Vientianne eg up north for a long time, but I think they have stopped that so they are just a more troublesome and more expensive way of getting a visa.
Just get VoA as and when you need. Don't forget they charge 'overtime' of about $2 if you cross at the weekend! Love It.
