How much does your backpack weigh?
Hello everyone! This question is just for fun and I am curious of other travelers answers....How much does/did your backpack weigh on average? How long was your trip? What is your liter capacity? What is your heaviest item? What was the item you ended up tossing first?
----
I am getting ready to head off for a very long trip through India Nepal then over to South East Asia and then beyond. Perhaps close to two years. I leave in two weeks and I am all packed. My backpack weighs 14.5 lb (about 6.6 kg) - I anticipate my bag weighing close to 18 lbs (about 8.2 kg) once I get some clothes in India and I imagine I will be carrying a liter of water on me most of my time...
My heaviest item is a Canon underwater housing case for my G12, weighing in at 13.1 ounces according to amazon.com. My liter capacity is actually unknown. I use a GoLite Pinnacle and it can go anywhere from 30 to 60 something liters...I think. I am around 45-50? Not really sure, no way to tell.
Looking forward to your answers...

Hi....Not a matter of where you're going or how long for, but more about what you need to take.
It's possible to take a small back pack (hand luggage size) with everything.
Some people like to take just necessities, others can't be without all their toys and gadgets.
What 'You' need depends entirely on you and nobody else.
Have you looked on any of the 'How to pack light' sites?

textibule, 6.6 kg is the weight of my bag with everything in it....I didn't think it was enormous, even so it is quite comfortable and I don't mind it at all.Again, this is just a question for fun as I researched packing lists and packing information for a while now and I just wanted to see how people respond to those questions about their own backpack. I am well satisfied with my bag and how I packed.

6.6kg is the total weight; an empty Pinnacle weighs about 600g - 800g. As a frameless pack that cinches down it's good for carry-on (when not full) and taking inside Asian buses (rather than putting it on the roof).I kept the weight at about 7.5kg for a high altitude trek, tossed nothing.
For those who prefer a pack with a lid, consider the slightly smaller OMM 'Mountain Mover.

Beginning of trip - about 7kg (but I wear the heavy stuff on the plane and take camera etc in carry on luggage). End of trip - too blimen heavy!!! But I have way too many nieces and nephews who I buy presents for and I'm too cheap to pay for the postage home. I think the capacity is 60 litres - but it wouldn't even be half full on the flight out. Heaviest item on last trip was the tablet (but it was lighter that three guidebooks would have been!). After that would be hiking shoes.Sorry, but I spend quite a bit of time chuckling at those poor smucks carrying large cameras when I get better photos from my point and shoot that fits in my back pocket.

to warm places: 5kg. or no more than 5.5kgto cold places the woolens weigh me down a lot more.
bag is heaviest when i go to places that are both warm and cold. really annoying as i'm a light packer.
toiletries and chargers weigh the most. i use a 10 year old GoLite Speed backpack (can't find pic on web that looks exactly like mine. probably doesn't exist anymore...). my trips range from 2 to 7 weeks. bag weighs 2-3 times more when i return (like to bring back stuff).
