Transport Logistics- Tulum to Placencia
Hi,A group of us (8 of us) are doing a sailing holiday in belize. We decided to fly into Cancun a few days before and make our way to Placencia where we need to pick up our boat. On the way back we need to head straight to Cancun to take our flight back home.
We have decided to skip Cancun and stay in Tulum. The only travel options i seem to find are to a take a bus to belize city and then either fly or take another bus to Placencia. Here is what I have figured out so far, please let me know if i have more options!
Tulum- Placencia
1) Take ADO bus leaving at 00:45 to Belize City
2) Take shared bus for about $55 from Belize City to Placencia
Placencia to Cancun
1) Take bus to Belize City - what time does it leave?
2) Take ADO bus to Cancun from Belize City - What time does it leave? Can i buy tickets in advance?
I am not able to figure out how to buy tickets in advance, since we are such a big group we dont really want to wing it and we will need to stick together. How much about it cost to chater a minibus from Belize City to Placencia? Is this even possible to do once we get there? Everything i see online for private transfer seems quite pricey, i dont know if Belize is one of those places where its better to wait to organise private hires once you get there?
Also is there only one bus from Tulum to Belize City? Is there any other way to get there?
Sorry for so many questions!! Thanks for your help :)

If y'all are into sailing, and heading to Placencia have you looked at Raggamuffin tours for transportation from Caye Caulker? Caye Caulker is a great island, kind of on your route and Raggamuffin has a good reputation for sailing.2
google "belize bus blog" courtesy of misterbee.the way I understand it is, buses originate in Cancun and pick up passengers in Playa and Tulum. It's something like every hour till 10 or so, then theyre farther between.
to fall off the grid for a minute, Raggamuffins 2 night sailing camping trip I recommend. did it twice meself. but sounds like to me, you'll be getting your fill of sailing out of Placencia.

Tulum to PlacenciaFrom Tulum to Belize City, there is only one ADO express bus per day.
There are other ADO express buses to Chetumal (every couple of hours), but in Chetumal you have to change to a Belizean bus (old school bus) to get to BC.
The ADO bus arrives at the bus terminal in BC where you can change to a James Bus Line bus to Independence. Then you have to get a small ferry called the Hokey-Pokey to get to Placencia.
Your other option is to hire private transport. I'd guess that would cost a few hundred US$.
The BelizeBus site has link to some of the transfer services.
Placencia to Cancun
1) Take bus to Belize City - what time does it leave?
The James Bus Line schedule is on this site...
https://www.hickatee.com/belize_bus_times.html
Note that James buses do not go to Placencia -- they go to Independence where you get a ferry to Placencia.
There might be other buses that go from Placencia to Dangriga then BC. You can check this out while you're there.
2) Take ADO bus to Cancun from Belize City - What time does it leave? Can i buy tickets in advance?
Belize City to Cancun
Departs from BC bus terminal daily at 7:30 pm with stops at Orange Walk (9:00 pm), Corozal (10:00 pm), Tulum (4:00 am), Playa del Carmen (5:00 am) and Cancun Airport (6:30 am). Arrives at Cancun bus terminal at 7:00 am.
Fares: BZ$55.00 to Tulum; BZ$63.00 to Playa del Carmen; BZ$79.00 to Cancun (one way).
Tickets go on sale about 2 hours before departure. I don't know if tickets can be purcahsed any further in advance. The BelizeBus site has some old contact telephone numbers for the agent(s).
How much about it cost to chater a minibus from Belize City to Placencia?
I'd guess a few hundred BZ$, but call them for prices. William's Belize Shuttle would be number one on my list, followed by Discounted.

The flight to Cancun hasn't started yet -- the route will begin on 12 November 2012, but I haven't seen a schedule yet. Tropic Air offers the flight and when the route begins, flights will depart from the International airport near Belize City. You can fly from Placencia to Belize City.Check with the Tropic Air website for updates.
