Working in Townsville
Apologies if this has been asked before. I am looking to visit Townsville and i wondered if any backpackers had experience of working in that area or if anybody knows of any opportunities to find work.Thanks.

how long will you be here? If it's for 3 months or more, you might be able to get a job at a cafe (places like Juliettes and That Place on Sturt often hire foreigner travellers). Otherwise, maybe look into fruit picking in Ayr (a town 100km south of Townsville).3
Townsville is definately moreof the business capital of North Queensland. Far more backpackers head to Cairns where most of the tourism occurs. That said I'm sure there is work in townsville for backpackers.4
Last year when I was staying at one of the backpacker places at Magnetic Island (it's a short ferry ride from Townsville) they were looking for people to work on reception/admin. I think it was at Bungalow Bay that I saw this. Anyway, it's probably worth trying the backpacker places and cafes on the island for other such opportunities.5
I wouldn't hold out for factory work. Townsville has a couple of refineries (Sun Metals and Queensland Nickel), but I doubt they'd be interested in backpackers, and nothing else comes to mind. Of course, I could be wrong.Good luck.
