Dollar - Kyat exchange rates.
Can anyone advise about the best way to exchange dollars for Kyat. I have read that you get a better rate going 'blackmarket' than to official changers. What constitutes black market (shops/hotels etc?) and what is the typical difference in exchange between the two. Some of the books I have read advise against using airport changers but I guess this can change faster than books can be updated and published.
Thanks.

That used to be the case, no days, the official banks are close enough to the black market and you dont have a 99% chance of being dudded as with the black market. The hotel's rates are not as good as the banks. However, most Hotels and Entrance fees are paid in $US. The first exchange counter you see at the airport is a good one to change your $100 or two note, that way you're in a secure place to stash away your wad of kyat. Still bring pristine US notes but some places are now accepting notes in reasonable condition.ADVERTISEMENT
