when should I arrive at the Munich HBF in time for a flight out of Munich?I'm flying from Munich to Iceland (so no passport control) and I'm wondering when I should book my train ticket to arrive in Munich. My flight's at 13:00 midweek, and I can check in early but will still have to do bag drop.
The Munich airport site says the connection's 10 minutes by S bahn but I found another thread here about something else saying I should give myself an hour. How complex is the connection from train to S bahn and from S bahn to check-in desks?
looking at the bahn site shows options to arrive in Munich Hbf at 9:12 or 9:51. Is the later one too risky?

1The airports site says its 41 resp. 45 minutes from Hauptbahnhof by S-Bahn S8 or S1.
Your flight leaves 13:00, you should be there two hours before.
I'd take the S8 departing at 10:15, arriving 10:55.
You can check the timetable here:
The train arriving at 9.51 is ok.

2The 10 Minutes are from Munich Airport Tain Station, not from Munich Central (Hauptbahnhof).
As the others suggested, allow one hour from Munich Mauptbahnhof to the check-In-counter. Look also the next train after 0951. If that next train also will get you to the airport on time, take the 0951. This gives you one train in reserve, in case Deutsche Bahn gets something wrong.
I always tra to take the last but one possible train. But this also depends on where to start. The more complicated the train connection, the more extra time is useful. Sppeding up on the last mile, that means taxi from the train station to the airport, might work at midday, but ist awfully expensive.

3i'm pretty sure you still have to go through passport control... i've flown many places in europe from munich and i cannot remember a time i didn't have to go through passport control.
and i agree with the others that it takes about an hour.

4just in case someone searches later on the same topic- I took the train arriving at the HBF at 9:51. I caught an earlier Sbahn than was suggested on my ticket and was at the airport at like 10:45. The connection between ICE and Sbahn is a breeze and definitely took me less than 10 min.
xscorcho: there was no passport control, as I expected. It's a Schengen zone flight so there's only airport security when departing, and customs incoming.
nice airport, very friendly staff, and much nicer lounge/shopping/food options after security than Frankfurt. I wish they had more frequent flights to/from Iceland!
