Diwali in Goa

Arriving in Mumbai on 2nd Novemebr for 4 months!! Planning to head to Goa for Diwali, can anyone help with the best part of Goa to be during Diwali and should we book ahead for accommodation?

Any other tips for the 4 months would be great :)

Also if there is somewhere else that would be better to see some genuine Diwali celebrations (not set up for the tourists) would love some advice.

Diwali

Is a festival of family first and lights second. Goa is mostly Christian but these festivals spill over. Generally join a Hindu family gathering or the general lighting and fireworks of big cities.

Wherever you are in India there will be Diwali celebrations " not set up for tourists". As said its mainly a family event.

I`ve been in Goa for Diwali in several years, and never saw anything "exciting". As said above, it`s mostly a family thing. That said...

and should we book ahead for accommodation?

They have BIG families... Book ahead.

If your looking for spectacular Diwali celebrations, you'd probably be better off staying in Mumbai.
