Tahiti/Moorea stray dogs
I have heard that there are a lot of stray dogs in Tahiti and rest of Polynesian islands. Am going there this winter. Does anybody know of AR organizations and/or shelters on Tahiti and Moorea where I could offer my help? Mainly dollars + by spreading the word about them in AR communities in the North. I don't mind + am used to hands on work but will only be there for appr 10 days so might not be of much use....Veryveryvery grateful for any kind of info on this
Thanx :)

I do not remember seeing stray dogs in French Polynesia. There are certainly dogs around, especially in closed garden yards. They are much more defensive of their home areas at night which you need to be aware of while out walking at night. I do not know of any animal societies in the islands although I expect there is a govt. run veterinary service or something. Dogs in Polynesia are more for security around the home than "mans best friend" and are not fussed over. In the old days the extra dogs would have been eaten and still are in some parts of Polynesia.
