3 weeks in Bali / Lombok / Jogja?
Just booked a RT ticket to Bali from 12/9 - 12/31. We are incredibly excited for the trip, and trying to figure out the best way to spend our 3 weeks.Would like a good blend of beach, hiking, culture, food, and some nightlife. But was hoping to avoid super-touristy areas like Kuta. Aiming for somewhat of a "grownup backpacker" trip (we're all late 20s).
Our current thoughts were:
Canggu (3-4 days) -- near Seminyak
Ubud (3-4 days)
Gili Islands (3-4 days)... but not sure where on Gili to go
Another spot on Lombok (3-4 days)
Jogja / Borobudur (2-3 days)
Would love any thoughts, and any other ideas for Bali (we're just starting to do our research now). Thanks!

It is wise of you to take enough time for the staying in Bali. Most people plan to see too many places. And it's a good plan. So I shouldn't really suggest more but anyway I have some ideas. When in Canggu, don't forget to visit the Tanah Lot temple area. I had a very good experience. Nice to see and also tranquile at this time of the year.
If you want to see Bali dancing the best place in my experience is Uluwatu. It' another temple at the very south of Bali. You see the dance, called "fire dance" outside in a nice environment. Both nature and the temple is rather exciting. I might be a long trip if you want you can combine it with water sports (snorkling, parasailing, water ski) in Nusa Dua.
Cheers

Though guides are an excess for senior backpackers in Java, Jojgakarta we found to really get off the tourist trak a quality guide, though price ($70+/- for 2 persons for 10+ hours) was worthwhile. Besides the facinatinating temples, going to small villages where locals produce product for hotels and large stores in town using 1920 techniques is facination. We did not see a tourist any time in that area. "Toys are US" was a 78 yr. old fellow on a bike selling home-made toys. You do not see that om your own. We went partially up the active Mt. Merapi as well and went to Solo and Dieng Plateau, just awesome, because we used the guide for 2 days.He picked us up at the airport and brought us back as well and got us hotel rates lower than we could get.If interested contact wiedyantara@hotmail.com
