San Antonio Texas

Hi all..im looking to go in San Antonio in a few months, february, march or april.. my initial idea is to stay there 1 or even 2 months , so at first im looking a place where i can stay even like renting a room or any cheaper solution than an hotel... mine wouldnt be only an holiday, if it will be possible to find a job i could even consider the idea to move there and so stay more than the period that i thought...
any suggest about some places that i can see to rent a room? and so began to plan this long trip??

if it will be possible to find a job

Are you a United States citizen or permanent resident?

my initial idea is to stay there 1 or even 2 months

How did you choose San Antonio for this? Most holidaymakers are done with S.A. after a day. While many cities improve with closer familiarity, I doubt S.A. would be one of them.

any suggest about some places that i can see to rent a room?

hi ty for the reply Mr Penney,
i choose about SA because a very dear friend living there, i know that after a day i will have visited it, of course as turist could even move to Houston, Dallas other places of Texas, and even travel to NY, Florida, California with her... but the first idea is to stay more close to my friend so i thought about staying there for a long period...i am italian so not an US citizen, but with passport and visa i can stay for 90 days and even more..so this wouldnt be a problem...but of course even with the idea of staying there i would love to find a job too

You would need to apply for a special work visa that allows you to work in the USA. Possibly, you could use your friend as a sponsor on your application.

You are not allowed to work in the US when admitted as a tourist (such as under the VWP as you describe)

andre, you cannot work legally in the U.S. under the VWP. The B-2 U.S. visa will not let you work legally, either. Usually to enter the U.S. for work you need to arrange the job and proper work visa first, and then travel here.

Look on Craigslist. I'm not clear why such a dear friend that would cause you to come to San Antonio for several months doesn't have a sofa to spare.

thanks all for the answers...
my firend can even give me a place where to stay, but i also wanna check for something at same time
so i could come at first for a shorter holiday and looking for a job and then come back when i find it, or its possible to come with a work visa even if i still have not a work?

You can look for work under the VWP (which is not a visa) or the B-2, you just can't actually work.
Working for food and board is still considered "work," and requires a proper visa.

or its possible to come with a work visa even if i still have not a work?
Yes, but it's much more difficult.
You still need a sponsor.

Let me explain more. It is very difficult to get a work visa for the US.

To get a work visa, you must first get an offer of a job. Then the employer must petition the immigration people for you. Then you apply for the visa. You must apply for the visa outside of the US. If you have entered the US under the Visa Waiver Program, you cannot change to a work visa while you are in the US.

It is not easy for an employer to petition for you to get a visa. The fees to file the petition can be expensive. The employer may have to prove that they cannot find people in the US who can do the job. Some visas are only for jobs that require a university degree. For many work visas there is a fixed number of visas that can be granted each year. The government receives many more petitions than they can give visas for.

Unless you are an engineer, doctor, or some other needed professional that the U.S. has a shortage of, you are highly unlikely to get sponsored for a visa.

And there is no way anyone with a professional degree is going to get hired for two months. It would take about a year to get the paperwork completed for any degree and OP would need to get an appropriate license in the state of Texas.

Ain't gonna happen.

Good point, Kahua, we can put this post into the category of fantasy/wishful thinking.

But I'm guessing that degree and qualifications are not in an area of need in the U.S. But by all means, feel free to start applying for jobs from your home country and get back to us when you snag a B2 visa.
