Best beach in Goa to spend christmas and new years???

I'll be spending christmas and new years in Goa area. Does anyone have any advice on where to go, which beaches are the best and not too overcrowded etc? Or is there a much better place for that period (as long it's not too far from Goa since I arrive there)?

I'm travelling alone so it would be nice if it's a place where I can meet other backpackers.
Thanks

Well, a beach where it's not too crowded but not too lonely at the same time. And with some places to go out during evening/night since it's new years-period.

We need to stop telling them about Benaulim/Colva, fivejacks. It`s crowded enough already.

Too late :-) Im always surprised at how often there are posts such as " want to avoid the crowds? I know this really quiet beach/village etc."

Awww, even the charter people don`t make it crowded. So they fill up Pedro`s, there`s still lots of places to go.

I would recommend you Anjuna. Very nice small village with 6 or 7 other beaches in the near. Plus if you wanna hide a bike and take a trip with that, you can get e.g. Panaji (with Old Goa), the capital of Goa, very easily.

Butterfly beach is a short boat ride from Palolem, it's never overcrowded, just make sure you don't fall asleep and miss the boat going back.
