North Island

I only have one week of my travels left and am spending it in North Island, arriving in Auckland on Saturday. I have booked a hostel for 2 nights so far - any suggestions as what to do before going back to drizzly dark London - as you can imagine hardly any money left!!

Jump on a ferry across the bay or out to one of the Islands.

Do you have a car? If so, you could head across to Coromandel Peninsula. Great beaches, scenery. Or head north to the Bay of islands. If looking for something more spectacular/cultural Rotorua for the thermal wonders and Maori Culture. You could combine Coromandel with Rotorua with a car in a 5 day round trip. Bay of island is harder as it is a one way trip up and back the same roads. Still lovely though.

Not quite one way up if you take the Kauri Coast road one way and head on up the west coast then cut across to east coast once you get as far as the Hokianga Harbour then come back down SH1.

Weather forecast for most of next week in Northland looks quite good so I'd be heading up there. And you can branch off again at SH16 on the way back for a different road. Lots of great places to stop off at along the way - or just chill out and relax in BOI.
