Thanks aminata, I have thought about cuba, no problems about puff. If i rocked up in cuba and got out of the city would it be possible to find a room with some locals for around £20 a day? All i need is accsess to a beach/swimming pool, not worried about nightlife. Basically i have around £50 a day but i don't want to have to count pennies. As i said i am recovering from illness so good food and a stress free place would be enough.
cheers

ps i have travelled widely and usually just trust that all will be well, and it usually is, i don't want to go somewhere and then have to leave a few weeks later due to lack of money

there is a little bed and breakfast place in Parottee , breakfast is about $3-4 US , Dinner $7 US >nightly rates are about $3500 ..negiotiable if yu are staying a month or more ... They have a resaurant on property and you will be right on the beach... smokes are oK ..they retired to Jamaica from the UK call Barb Powell 876- 965 2780 Restaurant number is 876-379 5224
Remember to negiotiate the per nite price if yu are staying a month or more...
Parottee is close to Treasure Beach

I am sure you will find something similar in Negril or cheaper with lots of food places . If yu eat where the locals eat , your meals will be cheap and filling ... good luck ..

info on places to stay , eat ,travel info is available from frequesnt visitors to Negril at

Thank you, I am going the third week of january. Ideally i want to stay a month, maybe 6 weeks. The cheaper i can get by on the longer i can stay. As i said before i don't usually need everything in place before i travel but this time due to my recent illness i can't risk it. I don't mind paying a bit more for a few days while i look around for a place.
thank you everyone for your help

go to negril dot com and ask the negrilaholics..there are lots of places to suit you budget and it onlt costs US 20 to get to negril from the airport. I 1/2 hr ride . Lots of affordable cook shops serving healthy food and close to beach .

most deals, I suspect are to Mobay plus airport in Mobay is closer to negril .If yu were going to Portland, then I would suggest Kingston Airport.
If,however yu find a "cant beat deal" to kingston, then consider it ..but transportation to negril will be about US$100

Have a healing experience ..

Thanks, the fares to both airports seem similar, so i reckon a flight to mobay plus an arranged pick up, (or an honest taxi driver, are there any in the world?) to negril will suit me fine.
Thanks for everybodys feed back i will post a few last questions in a month or so, like "where can i get some vinyl"?
cheers

Virgin Atlantic flies to MoBay and to Havana from Gatwick.

If you want to check out Cuba and the casa particulares (home stays) check out this site:

http://www.cuba-junky.com/

Also of course the Cuba forum on here.
