Ta Drumbrake. Yes that's what I meant. Yes you got a good point!
But what about over nighting it back to your own country and using a visa agency in your country to obtain visa and having the agency overnight it back, I see they do overseas applications? Anyone ever heard of this been done successfully before?

US passport holders do that - sending passports back to the US - but they had the added reason of being able to get a one year multi entry visa for China for the same price as a single entry when applying in their own country. For Irish? I'm not sure. Are you sure it is not possible to get the Chinese visa in Laos (if that is where you are), or perhaps Chiang Mai instead (Bangkok seems to be a problem).

Ta Again Mate! I always thought HK was an easy place for the 3 month visa? I want to enter from Laos. Do they have these visa agencies in all those countries and surely its best to use them for the difficult to get visas. I often wonder also if the agencies have a kind of ' special relationship ' and a better success rate with the consulates but perhaps that's wishful thinking!

Three months is NOT guaranteed. But even with a month you can extend, usually twice for a total of close to 3 months.

Yes. Some agencies have better relations with consulates. Hence the recommendation to use ForeverBright in HK.

There may be an agency in Laos that can help but I am not aware of one. There is nothing preventing you from going to Chiang Mai or HK and then returning to Laos to enter China except money and without the visa you can't go. So it's your choice.
