Cincinnati to NYC what to see?

Hi All,

I will be driving in a couple of weeks from Cincinnati to NYC and was hoping for some inspiration on what to see along the way, nice places to stay.

We are two in our early 30's, have 4 days to make the trip. Looking for some adventures, nice food, beautiful romantic scenery and general good times.

A couple of initial thoughts I had was
1. Head up to see the Niagara falls (seems a long way)
2. Check out some of the civil war sites Gettysburg etc

Many thanks in advance,
Rob.

Maybe make your way east along the Ohio River Valley, across WV to Staunton/Charlottesville VA, up Skyline Drive and on to Harper's Ferry, then Gettysburg, and on to I-78.

Fallingwater is not far out of the way.

Of course, if you do want something more direct, you could try this.

Pittsburgh can be entertaining for a day or two if you do your homework, and still allows the other suggestions. I probably wouldn't bother with the Falls.

Thanks for the replies - much appreciated. Like the idea of Harper's Ferry and Skyline Drive. Will do my homework on Pittsburgh. Any pointers?!

Also is any of the coast south of NYC worth a night?

Duquesne Incline.

It depends on what you mean by "south." xJersey shore? All of NJ? To DE or MD?

Thanks Bzookai.
I guess as part of the road trip is there anywhere nice on the coast for a detour en route to NYC. The further south the nicer it would have to be to warrant the extra drive!

The nicest place in xJersey (imo) is Cape May.
It's about 3 hours (direct) from xNYC.

If you are willing to take the detour, it would look (roughly) like this.

The downside is that this is off-season for all of that stretch of the coast. Places will be quieter, and some attractions/restaurants/etc. may be closed.

Also, I noted this in #5, but I'll make it more explicit here: Ohiopyle.

If you enjoy caves, or if you've always wanted to go to one, Luray Caverns is right on your route.
