We want to go from Salta over Asuncion Paraguay to Foz do Iguacu Brazil by bus in early November 2012.
Any suggestions on route and companies. Is it possible to go over Formosa?
Right now on way to San Pedro de Atacama, then to Salta - by bus.

It is easier to get from Salta to Puerto Iguazu on the argentinean side and then croos over to Foz. It is also better and cheaper to stay on the argentinean side2
Yes.....unless you have a specific reason to go trough Asuncion the easiest way is as outlined by Beerfree......it will be a long bus trip approx 26 hours3
Agree with 1 and 2 unless there is a specific reason to go to Asuncion. If you do need to go to Asuncion, take a bus from Salta to Resistencia (Argentina). From there take a bus to Asuncion. In Asuncion, take a bus to Ciudad del Este and cross the border to Foz there.

Thanks for the notes - we have some time and wanted to spent 2 - 3 days in Asuncion. It looked easy from Salta, straight line across, was hoping to go over Formosa but see no bus lines going there. So it looks like over Resistencia - Asuncion is the only and long way. Maybe skip Paraguay and go straight to the falls.5
You can easily travel to Formosa then onto Asuncion. Going first to Iguazu would only make sense if you want to skip Asuncion.I recently did your original proposal in reverse, Asuncion - Formosa - Salta. There are several buses between Salta and Formosa, around 16 hours. Between Formosa and Acuncion you must take a series of local buses/collectivos. This will take a few hours depending on connection time. The locals can point you in the right direction, people are friendly here. You should arrive in Formosa early in the day.
Asuncion is not the most exciting capital in SAM. You could spend a day or two in Encarnacion on the way to Iguazu.

Thanks I knew someone must have done this way. But I may skip Paraguay and go around it to the Falls.
