15Distressingly, Costa is the biggest coffee bar company in Britain, in terms of number of outlets. I say distressingly because I rate their coffee the worst of the big chains. They are owned by Whitbread. I had a quick look at Whitbread's accounts: Whitbread do pay tax. And the profitability of Costa itself is staggering, though that's global, UK is not separated out.
Curiously, although they have rather fewer outlets than either, the guy who runs Caffe Nero has said he reckons he sells a greater quantity of hot coffee in Britain than Starbucks and Costa put together.

17I know but the mods get very touchy about non travel related posts, well on the UK/Ireland site so you need any excuse you can get to combine a topical subject with travel. Now how can I relate those non taxpayers at Amazon to travel. I know where can I buy a book about travel to the UK from a retailer that pays tax.
