Driving from Amman International Airport to Jerash
Hi, I'm flying to Amman at the end of this month with my partner and arriving about 7 pm on a sunday eve. I'll be collecting a hire car from the airport and intend driving direct to Jerash. Can anyone advise me on how long it would take / state of the roads / signage etc? It looks fairly straightforward (on the map - driving to west of amman) but I'll be driving in the dark and am conscious that's not the ideal time to venture onto the Jordanian roads for the first time...Thanks,
David

Welcome, You should do just fine. From the airport to the exit for Jerash it's all multi-lane highway; just follow your directions until you see the sign.If you get turned around there'll be plenty of friendly folks to point you in the right direction.
Good luck.

It's not quite so straightforward when you get to just south of Amman. If you blindly stay on the road from the airport you end up going in to the west of Amman to Mecca Street (Makka Al Mokarrama) where there is a T junction and by then you'll probably be lost. You actually follow the road from the airport north until you reach a point at exactly 31° 56.045'N 35° 51.328'E where you have to turn off to the right and loop back underneath the road to continue - signposted Irbid. It's a bit after the large service stations that have a McDonalds at them. Once you've made that loop then stay on that road all the way to the turn off for Jerash, which is signposted (Ajlun, Jarash) at 32° 13.417'N 35° 53.517'E. That will bring you to the south of the town. If you miss it there is another one that brings you to the east of the town about 7km later.
Before you go have a look at those coordinates on Google/Bing Maps and see what I mean.
I'd allow myself anything up to a couple hours to do that journey on a Sunday evening, in the dark, door to door.
